About Etude Brogli
A deliberately light solo practice on Lake Geneva
Alain Brogli has been a lawyer since 2004 and has run his own practice in Lutry, on the shores of Lake Geneva, since 2006, and for the last decade entirely alone, without a secretary or trainees. His work resembles a family office: long-term clients he has advised for some twenty years, a strong focus on contract drafting, and specialist colleagues he brings in when a matter calls for them.
He compares his way of working to alpine-style climbing: light, a single backpack, only the essentials. The goal was never to grow a structure: it was to keep the freedom to organise his work and stay directly reachable for every client.
The Challenge
Every task lands on one desk
Working alone means there is nobody to delegate to: every letter, every contract, every research question and every piece of administration lands on the same desk. Correspondence alone (drafting, formatting, sending) consumed a disproportionate share of productive hours.
When generative AI emerged in the summer of 2024, Alain saw a window opening: a new way of working, made for exactly his kind of practice. But one constraint was non-negotiable: client matters could only be processed in a genuinely confidential environment.
“I've been doing this job for 25 years, and it's the first time I feel supported in the way I approach certain problems.”
The Solution
Whisperit as the confidential workhorse of a one-man team
Whisperit became the confidential core of his daily toolkit: correspondence is generated from two short instructions, dictation replaces typing, legal research starts directly from the case question, and client documents stay in a secured environment. Around it, general-purpose AIs handle anonymised cross-checking, but Whisperit is where the real client work happens.
- Correspondence drafted from a couple of instructions, no secretary needed
- Near-daily dictation of letters and notes
- Legal research launched directly on case questions
- Confidential by design: client data stays in a secured environment
- Markedly more affordable than traditional Swiss legal-research tools
“Working with an AI tool is, contrary to what some might think, a way of giving interest and energy back to the work we do.”
The Results
A decision-maker with a team of one
The tedious part of the work, the part that consumed time and energy, is getting lighter, and the hours flow back into decisions, strategy, client contact and counsel. Complex, urgent matters that would once have been a burden get untangled in minutes: problems sorted, urgent points flagged, and an email to the client with the missing documents requested three minutes later.
After 25 years in practice, Alain describes the feeling simply: for the first time, he feels supported in how he approaches difficult problems: a solo lawyer with the tools, and the sensation, of a team.
The Interview
In conversation with Alain Brogli
Excerpts from the interview filmed at the Lutry office in March 2026, lightly edited for clarity.
Can you introduce your practice?
Alain Brogli: I've been a lawyer since 2004 and on my own since 2006. For about ten years now I've worked absolutely alone, without a secretary. My activity is close to a family office: regular clients for some twenty years, varied areas of law, and specialist colleagues I hand matters to when needed. Being always directly reachable is part of how I built the practice.
How did you come to AI?
Alain Brogli: It's paradoxical, because I'm not a geek. But in the summer of 2024 it felt obvious that a new way of working was emerging and that I shouldn't let the train pass. It was curiosity more than necessity, and it's genuinely fun.
What does Whisperit change day to day?
Alain Brogli: It helps me enormously with correspondence, since I have no secretary: two instructions to the AI and I have a text. I use it almost daily, for dictating letters and for starting legal research. And its confidentiality is what lets me use it on client matters.
What surprised you most?
Alain Brogli: The ability to grasp complexity. When a client arrives with an urgent, tangled situation, a well-prompted AI sorts the problems, the urgent points, the documents to request, and three minutes later there's an email to the client. Doing that alone used to take me time, and I would never have been as good.
Whisperit in three words?
Alain Brogli: Pioneering, confidential and collaborative, because you feel part of the product. There's a real dialogue with the team; they're not selling a finished product, they're exploring how to move forward, and that's a strength.
“It gives you the feeling of being a decision-maker with tools, even a team, while I work alone.”
